Daily Commemoration- September 14
Equality - Gender
Time to Think:
“I beg you to speak of Woman as you do of the Negro, speak of her as a human being, as a citizen of the United States, as a half of the people in whose hands lies the destiny of this Nation.” ~ Susan B. Anthony
Take a few minutes to contemplate by yourself or discuss with a friend the meaning of this quote. How have women shaped the United States? Would America have accomplished what it has without gender equality? How have you been personally impacted by gender equality? What would life be like without gender equality?
Short: Read the 19th Amendment or the Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions.
Medium: Watch our Patriot Lesson video on Elizabeth Cady Stanton or Susan B. Anthony. We also recommend NHD Documentary the Fight for Women’s Rights (found on Youtube.com).
Long: Visit your local library to read more about the Women’s Rights movement or watch the movie Iron Jawed Angels, which follows the actions of Alice Paul and Lucy Burns and how they impacted the women’s suffrage movement.
